Living in today’s world, it’s become common news to hear of vehicle parts being recalled for factory defects⏤yet when it comes to our food and medicine⏤all hell breaks loose when we hear of recalls due to foreign contaminants and parasite invasion within the products we ingest to sustain us.

Through the past couple decades alone, food and weather manipulations have weaponized many of our foods to some degree becoming the new normal, as every year our nation is plagued with new strains of viruses, bacteria, and deadly parasitic illnesses.

As a society, why haven’t we clamped down on regulations and securities involving the health and safety of our meats, produce, foods and drugs?

It’s summertime here in the US and many Americans enjoy cooking and eating outdoors, but extreme heat can also contribute to contamination and food poisoning.

Viruses and Bacteria are the most common cause of food poisoning. The CDC estimates 48 million people become sick, with 128,000 hospitalized, and 3,000 die every year in the U.S.from food-borne diseases. The severity and symptoms of food poisoning differ depending on which virus and bacteria have contaminated food products.

The most common sources of food poisoning are the culprits of E.coli, Listeria, Salmonella, Norovirus, Campylobacter and Clostridium perfringens and can be prevented by ensuring food products are prepared and cooked on clean surfaces.

Where do we look for preventative measures to help avoid contaminated foods that contribute to future health issues?

The USDA, CDC and FDA websites will keep consumers informed on what products have been taken off the market for various reasons.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the US federal executive department that is responsible for developing and executing federal laws related to farming, food, and forestry. This is the most current listing of contaminated foods from as recent as July 2020 dating to 2018. You can get on their email list for any changes to their register.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a model that assists food control jurisdictions at all levels of government by providing them with a scientifically sound technical and legal basis for regulating the retail and foodservice segment of the industry (grocery stores, restaurants, and institutions such as hospitals, and nursing homes).

They also publish the FDA Food Code that local, state, tribal and federal regulators use as their model to develop or update food safety rules to be consistent with national food regulatory policy. Most recent recalls.
