Insecure Or IN-secure? How to Create Inner Security for Lasting Self-Esteem
During a ceremony and in a state of shamanic journeying* I was working on this concept of insecurity. I have battled feeling deeply insecure for most of my life. When we see inner security it as a battle, it is a battle.
We fight to feel worthy.
We fight to convince people we are worth liking, not for who we are, but for who we become to be liked. The likeable masks are how we show up when insecurity rules our lives.
We fight our emotions that bubble up in the spaces between the busy.
We fight our longing to be really seen as we are, because we don’t trust that we are enough.
We fight our natural need for true connection because of our fear of rejection.
Insecurity is debilitating.
I still have flare ups from time to time, and I avoid going out into the world because I just don’t have the energy to deal with the emotions of worrying about what other people think, or how I seem, or whatever, so hiding is the only logical option of course. But this is no way to live.
Back to my ah-ha in this ceremony.
Because insecurity is a battle, I wanted to use the Spiritual powerhouse tools of shamanism to literally shed light on this. Shamanism the word means to see in the dark, to see the unseen. During this particular ceremony, which was more of a movement meditation than anything, I kept saying the word Insecure, Insecure, Insecure, while I moved through different actions that help our consciousness connect to different states of perception.
Don’t worry about the process I did for now, what I wanted to share with others was the revelation. IN-secure. Eventually, the word transformed to meaning Inner Security. Neat eh? (yes, I am Canadian).
Inner Security, IN-secure, to be secure from the inside out.
Instead of the word meaning
- not firmly fixed; liable to give way or break.“an insecure footbridge”
- (of a person) not confident or assured; uncertain and anxious.
The word suddenly took on new meaning for me; that I always was secure inside. The only problem was believing that I wasn’t.
Which brings me to doing transformational work as a career. This revelation, was one small drop in the ocean of re-owning my worth. Re-connecting to the truth of what was always true.
We are ALL worthy.
Our Security Inside stems from this re-connection of who we always were: Worthy.
When we do not feel worthy, we act unworthy. So then we believe we are unworthy. It’s a vicious cycle that just keeps going unless we step off the cycle. And we can step off the cycle.
All these little a-ha moments add up. We can slowly reclaim our worth simply by entertaining that we’ve always had the INNER security to do so.
By shifting your own inner gears with patience and consistency, you too can re-claim your true nature as a worthy being. Just by being. Just you being you is already worthy.
So now what’s possible? You are worthy – done. Now, who do you want to be? How do you, as an already worthy being, want to live?
When you reclaim your security within, you re-claim your power to create your life.
