I recently opined that the GOP seems bereft of conservative political leadership. A few lone voices adrift in the sea of noise are heard from the House and Senate from time to time. However, the post-Trump GOP rails against its base, still trying to effect a return to the Paul Ryan, John Boehner type of establishment Republicanism that nobody wants anymore. I can guess what the Republican “Elites” agenda will be, but the base isn’t behind them. The GOP’s guiding light still comes from South Florida, and the threat for establishment GOP politicians, like the Sword of Damocles, hangs over them on a thin thread. Focus on 2024!
Bill Kristol, the once favored political commentator on neoconservative issues, went into a meltdown when Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016. His railings against the earthquake that was shaking the foundations of Republican politics drove him to near madness; his Weekly Standard Magazine quickly went into decline, as did his own platform of what he considered reasonable politics for Republicans to do. We didn’t miss Bill Kristol for four wonderful years, but now, he’s attempting an anti-Trump comeback. But he has competition; the hole Kristol left as the GOP’s moderate guru was quickly filled by another confused prophet, Bill Luntz, a poll taker and self-important mover and shaker who sometimes makes good guesses.
Both Luntz, Kristol, and a few others are keen to refill the GOP establishments fuel tank with the same DC swamp gas that drove it into near obscurity. There is nothing new in that assessment.
The GOP simply hasn’t figured out what Trump did, that the power base for conservative politics lies with the vast sea of unwashed conservative voters who attended his rallies by the thousands. If allowed, the GOP will once again be led back to the swamp by Luntz et al. because there’s no organized Conservative leadership, only neocon’s making noise.
Senate co-Leader, Mitch McConnell at least understood how the game was played. He did carry along many of Trump’s proposals to his credit because they were not only good for America but good for Republican re-election hopes. Remember, just because Democrats stole the presidency, they lost heavily in gaining House seats in flyover country and failing to achieve an unstoppable seat majority in the Senate. To be fair, however, it’s important to note that McConnell’s Chinese wife’s sister and her Chinese husband own a major Chinese shipping company. Just saying! They dwell well within the “elites class structure” and deserve watching.
There is a double standard of justice under which Republican politicians, except those who served under Trump and newbies who refuse to play the game, feel the warming embrace of security from prosecution so long as things remain the same.
We are actually seeing the double standards even now. Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, for example, spent months offering the DOJ evidence corroborated by digital communications that Hunter Biden failed to register as a foreign agent, but also was involved in child pornography, money laundering, and served in the Biden family’s elaborate scheme to sell political influence in exchange for millions of shekels of gold, undisturbed by the forces of law and order yet, they conducted a raid on Giuliani Offices.
One must wonder why Hillary Clinton isn’t in the dock yet. Her crimes, and Obama’s, and now, even John Kerry’s, are simply ignored by the DoJ, the FBI, and the media. No word, no outcry, and no concern apparently, from the GOP leadership. Leadership is important, and so far, we’ve lost ours. I expect conservatism to prevail in 2022. It’s time to talk about Biden’s impeachment after 2022 before he completely ruins America by 2024. It’s time to show the GOP does have positive leadership again after the RINOs are weeded out. We’re running out of time, folks!
