For human beings to flourish, there must be hope and faith! We are creatures of tradition – even if this tradition is wrapped in theory that appears to be counterintuitive to what we believe. For me, I’ve struggled for many years with the retail-ization of the birth of Jesus Christ. I’ve even gone as far as blaming it all on the Three Kings. So then, Why did the Magi bring Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the new born infant? (I’ll leave the answer to that question to Bible History, link is below) And then there is the proverbial ‘War on Christmas’, is this a made up soundbite for media talking heads? Or perhaps, might this be a real contest between good and evil?
To put this into context we can all understand I AM QUESTIONING THE RELEVANCY OF CHRISTMAS? I see the fire in the eyes of shoppers as they scurry from store to store looking for the gifts that will adorn the tree Christmas morning. I feel the anxiety of drivers in their cars on the roads just prior to the clock striking midnight on the 24th. I sense the tension build as consumers over-extend their credit cards in hopes that they’ve done their diligence in completing the task and responsibility of being a good steward of Christmas.
In full disclosure – I struggled to title this episode IS SANTA SATAN DRESSED IN RED? Now before you throw something at the computer, smartphone, or radio, let me explain. I know you’re thinking – HOW HEARTLESS CAN YOU BE MALCOLM? Perhaps you even think I should fall asleep and wake up in my dreams as Ebenezer Scrooge!
I had one of the most fascinating conversations on Christmas, Faith, Christians, Trump, and yes, could Santa be Satan? The talk was with the beautiful and brilliant Dran Reese.
Dran Reese is Founder of The Salt & Light Council, they provide a strategic program for activating the Church to become a positive influence and witness for our Christian values in government, media and education. With churches activated in 23 states, The Salt & Light Council supplies a turn-key, sustainable ministry.
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:13-14
