The stress of trying and failing to have a child often leads both men and women into bouts of depression. For many the quest to live on leads to the question ‘what is the point of my existence if I cannot bear any children?’ They often have to go very deep to find a reason to carry on.”
47.6 percent of women between ages 15 and 44 have never had children, this is up from 46.5 percent in 2012. This represents the highest percentage of childless women since the bureau started tracking that data in 1976, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey.
Many childless not by choice men and women whose infertility is unexplained, choose to undergo rounds of grueling IVF treatments, at excessive costs in the thousands. This is often a lonely journey unbeknownst to family and friends. The constant exclusion from life’s milestones, when all they ever wanted was a family is a constant reminder of their childlessness, which leads to complicated grief for many.
