#87 Facebook as a Church

Church membership dropped almost 10 percent in the 1980s, fell another 12 percent in the 1990s — with some denominations reporting a 40 percent membership drop — and the early 2000s saw an even further decline, states Church Leadership. “So this is our challenge,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. “We have to build a world where every single person has a sense of purpose and community.”

Has society lost its perspective on why we go to church in the first place? We don’t go to be entertained (we’re not supposed to anyway), but many churches have turned into entertainment centers – Facebook would take it all the way…but would this help or hurt society since churches encourage us to be better and Facebook is just a social medium?

Where are we headed as a society as more and more people are glued to the computer screen and their iphone? Is FB really being used to spy on people and to control them? There is already massive censorship on there…and a loss of freedom of speech…

Co-hosts Iben Thranholm and Barbara McGee agree that Facebook has turned into another version of ‘The Days of our Lives’. Don’t get Malcolm started…. he has a few opinions on this one – starting with Facebook is code for ‘Devil Worshiper’….
